Discovering Stafford Schools with Superintendent Benson

Technology (or Not), Great Teachers Make the Difference!

Superintendent Benson visited Ms. Papas’ Algebra class at H. H. Poole Middle where students were learning to solve systems of linear inequalities with two variables and Mrs. Barney’s and Ms. Ramsey’s 4th grade class at Hampton Oaks Elementary School.  Students were learning about the importance of the charters of the Virginia Company of London in establishing the Jamestown settlement and the first representative legislative body in English America. Check out the Superintendent’s Blog to see what is happening in the classrooms.

With Winter Months Here, It's Time to Re-Register for the New Stafford Alert System

Stafford upgrades Community Emergency Alert System using a new vendor, Everbridge. Users will still receive alerts about different emergency-related situations including severe weather, natural disasters, traffic incidents and government and school closings. The new system will also offer Reverse 911, which sends automated phone calls to groups of people living in a specific geographic area, and enhanced mapping to allow messages to be sent to subscribers within defined or ad-hoc areas of the county. In addition, the new system will allows users to customize the alerts they want to receive and also lets them choose how they want to receive alerts whether by text message, email and landline.   Additional information can be found on the Stafford County website here.  If you have not re-registered for the new system, please register now.
